My 1st non-OR SEE Trick: I found out that all human beings liked saying the word, “SIT” to us dogs. From my breeder and now Dad and Mom and then everyone in the house use the word ever so often, and it almost always followed right after my name. That day, also my second day with the Lim family was the day I learnt what “SIT” was. Each time Dad said the word, Mom would push my back down so that my 2 hind legs rested. The moment I stood up again, Dad and Mom repeated the “SIT” process until I obediently “sat” on my own at the mention of the word. Mom smiled, gave me a little bone-like chewy biscuit and said, “Clever girl, Jodie”. I wagged back at her.
My 1st Spanking: About 2 months in my new home, I discovered something that was really nice and chewy and they always appeared in twos. I just simply enjoyed chewing and chewing and biting on them, with no urge to swallow them down though and I only learnt later that they were called “shoes”. That was when I got whacked by Dad and he’d crossly said, “NO biting SHOES!” Ouch..
My 1st Accessory: Dad came home one day with a long long chain and little did I know that it was for me until he started putting it around my neck. Euu..I hated the weight and the discomfort..and then he started pulling the chain kinda to make me move. I was not in my best mood that day and sat there looking unhappily at Dad, refusing to budge an inch. After several failed attempts in getting me to move, Dad decided to “release” my new chain and I jumped and wagged happily, licking him on his cheek. He shook his head and said, “Ok Ok, let’s walk”.
My 1st Walk: Mom and Dad took me for my 1st walk a week after I moved into my new home. I followed them closely and explored the grounds in the neighbourhood. I was greeted by many of my kind, in all assorted colours and breed. I pee-ed in certain spots that had not been pee-ed to “mark my territories” and then we reached this nice spot where the grass was especially green and there were many children happily playing with funny looking toys. The one that amazed me most was the swinging one. Then Dad suddenly threw an empty water bottle and asked me to, “Fetch”. Funny how I understood what Dad meant almost right away and after I brought back his bottle, I got a nice pat and a praise, “Good Girl, Jodie” which I was proud of. After a few more “fetches”, we walked home and Mom gave me water, (“Slurp”, didn’t know I was so thirsty) and dinner. Was I looking forward to my next walk!!
My 1st visit to the Clinic: After 2 months living with Mom and Dad, they told me I was going to see a doctor. Hmm.. I was beginning to feel that Mom and Dad thought I knew everything. I was carried into Dad’s car and it was a short distance before we reached this little shop lot. I was surprised to see a few others of my kind (again) barking at me, almost as if to warn me of something coming. I explored the place and then my name was called by this lady. Dad took me into a room and placed me on some machine that told how heavy I was, before putting me on a high steel table. My heart was beating really fast and I turned to Mom with a worried look. Mom game me a warm hug, grinned at me and said, “Don’t worry Sweetie, you’ll be fine”. The doctor then inserted something into my..behind.. and said, “Temperature normal” before feeling my whole body and checking my eyes and ears etc. Then something sharp, which I remembered vaguely happened to me shortly after my birth, was poked into the back of my neck. And the Doctor patted me and said, “OK, done. You can go now. I’ll see you in another 6 months.” Phew, was that it? I was relieved to be back in the car heading home. I felt a little dizzy and dozed off slowly... wondering how long 6 months would be…Zz..zzz...
